How do we heart/love this 62 times. Also, would the consultant for Ivy Admissions be Woody Hareleson? Couldn't take him seriously in that role after Cheers.

Helpful if people post if their kids have hooks or not for admissions and whether they had something extraordinary. Did they have a medical cure? Did they fence? Did they win the Tournament of Champions? Did they stop deforestation in Brazilian rain forest? Are they double legacy but first in their family to go to college? Are they URM?

That’s amazing. Huge congratulations to your son!!

Ok so essay really strong. What was so strong? What about stats? 4.0 unweighted? Test scores? Test optional? Proposed plan? Wharton?

NP. Take a step back from this onslaught!

DD got rejected from all 8 and collapsed sobbing on the floor. A tad dramatic, I’d say. Perhaps she should have applied to Juilliard…

Princeton sux (they did you a favor by not accepting). What does DC plan to study?

DC also was accepted to Stanford REA. Loves CS but also equally loves Math, Econ, and Urban Studies (which is what his main EC was about). I’m hoping he picks something on the east coast. We’ll visit during admit weekends, talk to people he knows at each school before deciding.

If they are not a troll, they applied badly. No one should want to go to both Dartmouth and Columbia.

My DD who is a junior loves Stanford - what kind of gpa, APs and test scores did he have to get in REA for CS? It seems very difficult even for the most amazing students ?

Under your view it’s just a brag session, with no meaningful information.

People like different things about different schools. My child applied to one school that has just a few hundred students and one with 20k. There are pros and cons to each of the schools on her list.

And some people just apply to all the Ivies to apply to all the ivies. A girl at my hs did this and got nos from all. She wound up at UNC-she was an oos legacy.

You have a crazy view that the only criterion that matters is the size of the city a college is in. Maybe Columbia & Dartmouth both have kickass Balkan history professors, or both have great fencing teams. Or they both have special dorm rooms for people who are allergic to some chemical. Maybe the applicant has a grandparent near both schools.

These are all hypothetical, but the point is there are a range of criteria, & not everybody prioritizes them the same.

Burt Reynolds was married to skinny Judy Carne & buxom Loni Anderson. Under your view, maybe he was crazy because the only thing that matters to you is bust size. But maybe he liked them both because they were funny. Or smart. Or smelled good. Everybody has different priorities.

Honestly we were stunned too. He has a 4.0/1600, not many APs, but private, very academic day school that goes beyond AP curriculum (not in DMV area). He was very passionate about his project to improve urban amenities which had a CS component and wrote about that in his essays. I’m guessing that passion came through and his teacher recommendations corroborated that. But we’re only guessing. Once he matriculates, I believe he can read his file to see what exactly moved the needle. We’re definitely curious!
