Its calories in v. calories out. Apparently, it doesnt matter what you are eating. |
| Wow. I find that fascinating. I mean, I suppose it's a no brainer, but it's interesting to see results like that. Obviously there are other reasons to eat fruits and veggies than weight management. However, maybe I can allow myself a ding dong while I'm dieting as long as I account for the calories. |

Before his Twinkie diet, he tried to eat a healthy diet that included whole grains, dietary fiber, berries and bananas, vegetables and occasional treats like pizza.
"There seems to be a disconnect between eating healthy and being healthy," Haub said. "It may not be the same. I was eating healthier, but I wasn't healthy. I was eating too much." This is so interesting. Eating too much is eating too much. Period. No matter if it's too much junk or too much healthy whole foods. |
| I'm not sure why this is news? Haven't we known for years that if you limit your calories, you will lose weight? |
| Yes, but we all also think that we must only eat whole grains, no white carbs, lean protein, fruits and veggies to be healthy and this guy basically proved, that at least over the short term, thats not necessarily true. |
| I agree that simple calorie counting should be all that's needed to lose weight. However, I also know that for me, sweets stimulate my appetite like crazy. (Though I guess if I were only eating sweets, maybe I'd get so disgusted that I wouldn't want to keep eating.) |
| The twinkie diet? Is that anything like the "twinkie defense"? |
Yes, this is often the case. That's why with the South Beach diet, your appetite diminishes (or is supposed to) over time. Also, whole grains and fiber-rich foods like fruits and veggies are supposed to keep you feeling full longer. In theory. I never feel really sated after a snack of veggies. Need me some chips to feel as if I've "snacked". |

It's also very short term results - curious to see what would happen if he continued. It is a no-brainer that calories in calories out is what does it, but if you continually eat crap I find it very hard to believe that your body won't rebel against your allotted calories. Anyone can do anything for 27 days, he knew he'd have an end and he knew he'd get a good article and press, so it was easy to follow the diet. But I doubt the average person can control themselves - if you practice restricted eating and eat mainly crap, your body will lead you to binge because it will be craving something.
That's why if you eat 1800 calories of REAL food, you will feel fuller and more satisfied than if you eat 1800 calories of crap. Not to mention if you are exercising at all - picture trying to keep up regular runs with that crap diet. Couldn't do it. |

Now I have a plan for all of our leftover Halloween candy!!!
Seriously though, if I ate that much sugar I would feel like crap. My body just doesn't react well to it. |
