I need help. I've got to lose about 8 pounds in 2 weeks. Possible? I'm going on vacation for the first time since my baby was born and I want to be bikini-ready. Moreover, I won't have any clothes to wear until I lose the rest of this baby weight.
I'm pretty disciplined with eating, I just can't seem to muster the energy to excercise (which I know I need to do). I've lost most of the weight already (I had gained a TON) and for a couple of weeks I've kicked it up a notch but I feel like I've hit a wall. I've been eating lots of salads with balsamic/olive oil and cut out most starches (but not carbs, per se). Any fad diets or crash diets that are easy to follow and work? |
No ideas but hey! Congratulations! Sounds like you are doing well and you probably look much better than you think! Have fun regardless of how many lbs you lose in the next 2 wks - for all of us! |
Without exercise you are just losing lean body mass |
You realize that when you start eating normally again, that you will gain that 8 lbs. and then some, right?
When you diet, you slow down your metabolism. If you don't eat protein, your body starts to digest your muscles. Increase your activity by at least taking walks. Activity increases your metabolism. |
Yes, I do realize a crash diet is not a permenant solution. I'm going on vacation, and that is my focus right now. I've always been very thin but gained a ton of weight with my pregnancy, so I'm not someone that has struggled with weight or yo-yoed, ever. This is the first time in my life I've ever tried to lose weight. I'm confident that I would lose the last few pounds the good old fashioned way over the next few months (I've done a great job so far and am almost at the finish line), but I really want to lose some lbs before my trip. And, of course I really need to work on excercising more in general. But right now--I want the quickest fix for shedding a few pounds. I'm already eating lots of protein. In fact, I'm mostly eating lean proteins and veggies with some fruit and the occasional granola bar or fiber one bar if I'm in a hurry. I know I should probably cut out the glass or two of wine I have a few nights a week though. I'm going to make an effort to do at least a long walk everyday (when it's not raining). |
First stage of South Beach diet or full-on Atkins always worked for me. |
Try cutting out all carbs (including fruit) and eat a non fat yogurt (3-4 per day) like dannon lite and fit (80 cals/per) as your carb. I know the yogurt part sounds strange, but something about dairy helps you lose weight. This has really worked for me and helps drop weight fast. It comes back of course, but is a great pre-vacation diet. |
I would do first stage of South Beach. NO alcohol allowed at all, or it won't work (but you said you are disciplined, so shouldn't be a problem). Full-on Atkins grosses me out (I think a lot of cholesterol). |
What is the first stage of South Beach? Is it no carbs at all? Or are you allowed some fruit but not starches?
I really like the yogurt suggestion, pp. Thanks! I started eating yoplait light right after the baby to curb my sweet tooth and to avoid snacking on junk. Maybe I'll try to replace fruit and all sweets with yogurt and continue with the lean proteins and veggies. |
You could try one of those 3-day juice cleanses. There was an article about them in the NYT last week. It wasn't an entirely positive article, but it was interesting and I could definitely see how doing that would be a way to lose a lot of pounds fast. The thing is, it'll all be water weight probably, so if you do it now and then eat normally in the few days before your vacation, it'll all come back. |
slimfast. drink 3 a day with apples and carrots, nothing else. |
Greek yogurt, eggs, salmon. |
No, no fruit. Think baked chicken/shrimp and lots of green veggies. The darker the green, the better. No corn, either. It's pretty strict, but it's just 2 weeks. If you stick to it, you WILL lose weight. |
OP here--I'm 1 pound smaller this morning! Yay!
For lunch I had some turkey meatballs with marinara and for dinner I made salad and baked chicken with a balsamic and teriyaki sauce. Some carbs, but not much. I did have a glass of wine to finish off the bottle, but no more wine for two weeks now. I'm off to the grocery store to get some yogurt, egg beaters, lots of veggies, and maybe some deli meat. Thanks everyone! Keep the tips coming--it's keeping me motivated. |
Go on the master cleanse. AKA, Lemonade diet. I'm on Day 12 and I've lost about 10 lbs since starting. |
