Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
What educational activities should a SAHM be doing with her 3 year old?
Talking about the things you see and do, reading books, doing puzzles, playing with whatever non-electronic toys your child likes. You don't need to do flashcards or explicitly teach anything.
Reading, reading, and reading. Also maybe start to do letter sounds - what sound each letter makes. I would also try to have the child start writing his/her name.
Field trips to fun places, playdates or group classes (socialize him/her as much as possible with other children!!!), cooking, reading, playing, building, physical activity, art projects. Search online for Montessori ideas you can do at home. There's a great blog I like to read: http://teachmama.blogspot.com (she's local and has great ideas)
Nature center
Lots of talking and reading and trips to everywhere- stores, playgrounds, parks, nature centers, museums, etc. Skills that build fine motor muscles too like Playdoh, cutting with scissors, drawing, painting, etc.
this! IMO don't worry about letters, etc. until your DC shows interest. |
