I thought it was just a problem with some of my friends' washing skills but now, after going to a few consignment sales around the area... Come on folks, who will buy that old looking, ragged sleeper that costs $7.00 new for $5.00 in a consignment sale? Seriously? Stretched sweaters full of lint, fuzz and pills? No thanks! Gerber onesies with spit up stains!! EEEWWWW!!!
What about disgusting shoes? Yup, beaten up stuff that is all stained and stinks! What do you people have in mind when you send these things to be sold? And among all the crap I find a cute like new J&J outfit for $37! ![]() HELO-OW... They're on sale now and I can get something pretty similar for the same price and BRAND NEW! But, clearly, I didn't learn my lesson and tomorrow I'm heading to another sale since it's the 50% day and I can't miss the Dollar Dash at the end of the day ![]() ps. I got a pack 'n play with infant insert and travel bag for $7!!! and a co-sleeper also brand new - in the bag - for $10. I should be thankful for those ![]() |
No, we are just lucky that we have husbands who will pitch in and share our household duties. A good trade off. |
So it's worse than I thought! Neither of you can do the job!
My husband knows how to wash clothes... |
How much care should I put into an item that costs $7 new? |
You're absolutely right, OP. The fact that you see old, worn out, used and soiled items for sale at consignment shops is proof positive that the female populace of the United States has no laundering skills.
You should work for Procter & Gamble. |
Have you considered that these were donations to charity? What do you consider a consignment sale? Perhaps you were at a GARAGE SALE? yard sale? tag sale? |
How sexist that you assume the women should be doing the washing! |
American women might not know how to properly wash clothes, but they sure are smarter than your stupid "wherever the hell you are from" ass. Maybe we spend less time doing laundry and more time being successful. |
Or the RNC. |
Don't shop at consignment stores if you don't like what you find! |
First thing, listen to the name brands that you're mentioning....they are not exactly supposed to hold up for years and years. Gerber? Those are supposed to be used for a few months and tossed. I doubt you found them at a consignment sale.
Also, I'm also not from this country and I pretty much dump everything into the washer and wash on hot. So, you can count me in the "don't know how to wash clothes" list. Mostly, it's because I work, I come home, I have more important things to do then spend hours of the day treating a 5 pack of cheap onesies as if it is a delicate wool sweater. If you're so cheap that you have to treat cotton baby clothes that way....go for it. Since you only seem to shop thrift stores and hand me downs....I guess you care how other people treat their clothes, because you're waiting for our cast offs. |
She does have a point about people thinking their old crap is just like new...
however, the subject heading: made me open this chain so I could rant at you, OP. |
For someone so snooty, I am surprised you shop at consignment. Neimans sounds more your style. |
It's not American women; it's our foreign-born nannies and housekeepers. Hard to get good help these days, you know. |
Wow, all of you PPs are nasty. (Speaking as an American born US citizen who launders even the cheap stuff with care.) There is a huge difference in how clothes will "wear" based on laundering. Case in point - I recently received hand me downs when our 3rd child (opposite sex from siblings) was born: everything my sister in law #1 gave me was pretty much trash; everything my sister in law #2 gave me was in good shape. The difference wasn't the labels, it was the laundering.
And lest ye wish to call me names because I accept hand me downs...both my spouse and I have six figure jobs and a nice fat bank account. But we also know how to do laundry so as not to ruin things. |
