Ways to relieve shortness of breath, painful spasms?

Anonymous
I am in my 32nd week and up until now I have not had much discomfort regarding my ribcage area....being 5'9" helps tremendously I believe. However, last night I found myself have painful spasms in my chest area. Today I am dealing with shortness of breath and painful moments. The pain is like a stabbing sensation for several moments where I feel frozen by it b/c moving makes it worse in my lower ribcage. I know that this is not abnormal, but hoped someone could tell me some things that worked for them to help relieve the shortness and pain. If it makes any difference it is only on one side - the baby camps out on the right side only.

PLEASE call your OB asap, what you are describing does not sound like shortness of breath in isolation the stabbing intermittent pains on one side could be something very different. it's best to make sure everything is ok, shortness of breath alone shouldnt cause stabbing pains and generally is an "all over" winded feeling versus stabbing pain...i dont want to scare you but stabbing ;pains for me in the chest during my last pregnancy were the onset of a severe pre=eclampsia episode...just call your MD to make sure all is ok, good luck

OP here -

Yikes PP - thanks for the input. Though I slept little last night, the baby seems to have relocated as the shortness is not nearly as bad last night. The spasms have not been felt this morning. I had planned on calling if it continued but now I am doing better.

I still would love to hear anything that helped make breathing deep easier as I am sure the baby will find that position again and I realized when I got into bed last night that it had left my back pretty tight too - hadn't noticed with the uncomfort I had been feeling in my chest.
