He's a retiree who posts his rankings on a message board. His kids played lax and he likes to stay connected by watching good games. I think you are a jerk did writing that. |
Sorry, for writing that. |
I call bull on this list. And the commentary is so weak. SR talks about one player, while they truly have a team of high D1 players. BI, while true, they are getting smoked at the same time. Visi is about games preparing them for ISL championships. So disrespectful that SJC is on the bubble. If that doesn't fire them (SJC), I don't know what will. |
Sounds like it's the clueless private school parents who are upset that a public had the temerity to be mentioned in the same local poll. And through no fault of coach Kim, Yorktown would be the best team in the DMV if the strongest players in her school district didn't decamp to the privates. And people who actually follow the sport look to USA Lacrosse, Inside lacrosse, or other sources for more accurate polling; no one cares about the WaPo polls except for the aged out mean girls on this site. . |
Not clueless if we are right. |
Geez this explains so much. WAPO should be ashamed. No wonder the rankings and commentary are so off-base and inaccurate. Get someone who actually knows wtf they are talking about and doesn’t have a hard-on for some public school coach. Totally pathetic WAPO. |
None of those polls do DC-area lists so that doesn’t make any sense. Neither does your point about how Yorktown would be a top DMV team if players were forced to live in some dystopian school system where kids are required to attend a designated school … Yikes. (For kicks, without naming names, please share what privates these elite impact Yorktown-districted players have ”defected.”) You’ve offered no argument to contest the point that Yorktown shouldn’t be ranked. It sorta sounds like you actually agree. |
Madison and Langley have lost a similar number of top players to privates. Would be a different level of play, but wouldn't give it all to Arlington. |
I think you crossed your wires a bit. The WaPo byline and the rankings posted in the digital version of the paper have a young reporter's byline. (Maybe you didn't look behind the paywall). Says he's a Field Hockey reporter. Would make sense for him to work the beat a bit and probably fair to provide feedback. Was an intern for the Globe in 2023 apparently. I don't believe anyone criticized a retiree who posts on message boards. I wouldn't associate myself with the "creepy" comment or "journalistic integrity" comments in any case; those were clearly off key. More likely the young reporter looked at past articles, asked for a connection to the best private and public programs and ended up connecting with SSSA and Yorktown (guessing there are some reporters who live in Alexandria and Arlington). Not crazy, just not a well-reported and informed perspective applied to this year. Let's give the kid the benefit of the doubt and comment on the paper's site to encourage a broader review for the final season's rankings. |
The WaPo’s reporting for high school sports has never been an example of fine journalism. Have DCs playing multiple sports and every season it’s the same—many do not know the sport they are covering nor do they have an understanding of the league/teams beyond simple stats. This is especially frustrating around All Met selections as they inevitably botch picks and kids/parents get hurt or angry. There have been exceptions over the years of course but for the most part WaPo’s hs sports reporting is something to take with a grain of salt and move on. |
Go woke, go broke….WAPO RIP |
Oh bod does this explain a lot. As I was reading this thread, I was thinking it was funny because the Yorktown field hockey team always gets a lot of attention for being strong in the public leagues, but would get crushed by a few of the local privates. And just like the grade inflation, all the accolodes the publics get in WaPo and all the different league honors helps get them recruited over the private school players, too. So there is an issue with the favoritism given to Yorktown. |
Any insight to how the SR Potomac (SR win) game played out? |
Just when I thought we had all firmly reestablished our sense of smugness and superiority over that darn public school…. It continues. How dare they? We’ve got it… WaPo is pandering to the serfs, they employe creepy old guys, oh wait incompetent young guys, or just guys with a thing for the coach, the resident lax expert dad of private school kid “watches” Yorktown has deemed them unworthy of stepping foot on a private school practice field despite the conveniently ignored competitive games they have had against private schools. And of course we have to rule out any and all things that happened last year like Oakton beating SSSA. But I feel validated now… thanks. And an entire night night of chatter about this and not one comment about any of the actual games??? So maybe this thread is not really about lax but a bunch of parents that want to put down every kid, team, coach, school that isn’t there’s. |
There are a few more steps in the process. Go woke, and to avoid going broke immediately, pander and lose credibility, then go broke. |
