Mother of 2 from VERY prominent Richmond family arrested by FBI for child p@rn, exploitation, etc

The sentence does not seem to be nearly enough as it is suggested here. Guess we will know more in September. And she will get credit for time served. I hope she is never in the same room with any children, especially any children her girls may one day have. This case makes me sick.

WASHINGTON – Eleanor Hunton Hoppe, 46, of Charlottesville, Va., today pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography in a plot to molest a young girl. The plea agreement was announced by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves of the District of Columbia and FBI Special Agent in Charge David J. Scott of the Washington Field Office, and Chief Pamela A. Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Hoppe pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography before U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras, who scheduled sentencing for September 23, 2024. The terms of Hoppe’s plea agreement call for her to serve 135 months in prison and 10 years of supervised release. In addition, she will have to register as a sex offender for a minimum period of 25 years.

According to court documents, in late February 2023, an undercover law enforcement officer encountered Hoppe on a social media site where individuals discuss their sexual interest in children and child sexual abuse material. Hoppe distributed three images of child pornography to the undercover officer and repeatedly expressed an interest in sexually abusing his purported 8-year-old daughter. On March 16, 2023, P Hoppe arranged to have the undercover officer bring his daughter from D.C. to a motel in Warrenton, Va., where she would meet them to sexually abuse the child. Police arrested Hoppe when she arrived at the hotel.

This case was investigated by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Youth and Family Services Division, Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, and the FBI’s Washington Field Office.

It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Caroline Burrell and Rachel Forman.

Statement of Offense ...

Law enforcement seized the defendant’s iPhone from her car. During a search of the phone, law enforcement located conversations with numerous other individuals on encrypted applications in which the defendant discussed grooming and sexual abusing children. In addition, law enforcement located 28 images and 7 videos of child sexual abuse material on the device, including material showing the sexual abuse of toddlers and prepubescent children, as well as children being abused while bound and gagged.

Jfc. She should go to jail for life. Never want to read about this ever again.

Typically, with these types of cases, the defendant must plead guilty to the enticement charge and the pornography charges are dropped, because the enticement charge is based what the defendant believed to be true, whereas the pornography charge involves physical evidence. The enticement charge has a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years, whereas the pornography charge does not. The fix is in on this one.

Wish it was longer.

I would not be shocked if she reoffends during her 25 years of supervised release, especially given her conduct while incarcerated.

Ms. Hoppe is one seriously disturbed individual.

This sentence is complete bs. She should be locked up for life.

The kind of sentence is a reminder that the US and our laws do not put innocent children and their safety first (look at Nasser case and the FBI).

Weird that she was represented by the public defender’s office, given that she comes from a family of well-regarded lawyers?

She does NOT come from a family of well regarded lawyers. Her brother and father, who are both lawyers, are definitely NOT well regarded at all (esp the brother).

Her late grandfather was the one in Hunton & Williams, but her father never was. In Richmond they're a joke. I am not even sure her brother has his license any more due to things he has done.

It all begs the question: what happened to her to make her this way? I’m sure it’s horrifying. Definitely a severely damaged person. Hope she rots in jail.

That’s similar to the sentence Josh Duggar got for downloading child sex abuse materials from illegal file sharing sites. His was a federal sentence and he can’t get released after a year for good behavior or due to prison overcrowding or what have you. I assume her sentence is the same way. She clearly has personality disorders and probably sex addiction - hope in her 11 year sentence she can get some help for all that and not offend again.
