Great Falls/Herndon: When did school busing end in Fairfax county?

When I was in "intermediate" school (7-8th grade) and high school, I was bussed from Great Falls to Herndon for public school (Herndon Intermediate and Herndon High School).
I read something recently that suggested that I was part of a busing program for integration. Maybe as part of a larger decision process? Does anyone know/have citations? It was a very, very long trip compared to Cooper and Langley, which Great Falls then became zoned to attend (to be clear, some people in Great Falls did go to Cooper and Langley even in the 1980s, but it was a different part of GF). I know the boundaries also changed at some point in the 1990s. |
