Duke bachelor’s (economics) & literally no work history

What are the employment options for a new graduate with nothing on their resume? Most recent W2 was in high school. Kid went to the career office and the first thing they wanted was a resume. Kid has nothing to put on a resume except name, address, phone, email and Duke economics degree.

What did they do with their summers?

No clubs? Sports? Nothing?

Summer internships or job experience, Uni
clubs/activities, greek life (if they had a leadership role), special skills (MS Office/Excel/coding languages), foreign languages, volunteer activities and experiences reflecting skills (fundraising, project management, etc.).

If you’re a recent grad, that’s what you put on your resume. What did they do in the summers? They can surely figure this out.

My graduating son was advised to put college clubs and activities on his resume. He played a club sport, had a leadership position at his fraternity, did some volunteer work and had an internship that was required for a class. He was told to omit his high school jobs altogether.

Duke's career services needs to be helping with this. I call troll.

But just to feed the troll, there is zero reason why someone who graduated with an Econ degree from Duke can't figure out WTH they need to do to find a job. They're an adult.

Nothing? Not even working at an ice cream shop or something?

This can't possibly be real. The kid is only making a resume now?

It is what it is. List whatever might be favorable, don't list what isn't real, and apply for entry-level roles where prior experience is not required.

That said, the absence of even summer employment or volunteer work will not reflect well on the job applicant, who may be seen as lazy and unambitious, absent extenuating circumstances or some other accomplishments during those time periods.

Student went to career center. That office asked for a resume. Student has literally nothing to put on a resume.
