If you had to choose between the two clubs for travel soccer which one would you choose and why? Thanks! |
Your missing a lot of details. What age group? Boys or girls? |
Gunston because the practice fields are closest to my house. |
Oh sorry - U9 - girls. |
Closest to the house with the best coach. |
ASA |
Painting with broad brush strokes: ASA is a much larger and stronger program with a pathway to the elite levels of youth soccer. Gunston is much more of a local/community club that frankly, is not quite as competitive (internally or externally). |
If you live close to Mt Vernon= gunston. Closer to Alexandria then Alex. Folks seem to switch between LMVSC and gunston at times.
But if your kid develops a lot, is very advanced or you want a bigger club, then look around. At that age, your kid wants friends and a fun coach…hard to know what your getting, so be sure to talk to the coach before making a decision. The coach will make or break the experience, regardless of which club you choose. |
As others have mentioned what can each do for your kid at where they are at in their development? Getting in at the ground floor just to get in at ASA or any other big club does not necessarily translate to success. If you get a higher team offer then I would probably lean toward ASA. |
In soccer rankings app for 2015, ASA is ranked second in VA and Gibson is ranked thirty second. |
In my soccer rankings app, I have the girls 2015 Gunston Premier listed as #11 and 2015 girls Alex Red listed as #13. Usually this metric comes from tournament performance as league performance is not recorded/ not accurate at this age group. |
what is Alexandria "elite level" for older girls? |
Gunston does travel? |
Asa girls program is not good anymore since they lost GA status. Would recommend SYC or stay at Gunston |
ASA. Gunston teams peak around U12 and then talent leaves. By middle school, the teams are basically open to anyone willing to pay. By high school, age groups are getting combined so that teams can be fielded |
