160k in 401k and 20k in emergency savings.
This is the most money I have ever had! |
Congratulations OP! A great start. |
Nice! I wish I had that amount. Thats my target. Hopefully you have investments too! |
Congrats!! I think I had less than that at 37, and now at 54 it is 1.2M. You are doing great!! |
This is poverty level on this forum but you are a better financial position than most people in real life. |
Well done, OP! Congrats! |
good job, OP. Keep going.
I'm 53, and I grew up lower income. I now have $1.5mil in my 401k, and $150k in my emergency fund (and that's just my accounts, not my spouse or my kid's 529). I was super frugal for so long. It's not dcum money, but I'm proud of what I have been able to save. |
Any reason you don't have a Roth? |
Congrats, OP! I feel you. I was in a very similar situation at your age (maybe with less?). Once I did start saving aggressively, the pot grew quickly. Obviously not compared to some people on this forum but I didn't have family gifts, trusts, and all those benefits. I couldn't really start saving until student loans were paid, we saved for down payment, finished daycare payments, and finally caught up to zero. Now that you've got your retirement growing, it'll only get bigger! |
is money is a 401k considered savings? I have never seen it that way. That money really isn't liquid. |
Woo hoo! Go OP! |
GFY! |
That might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read on here! Great job! |
So after reading about planning for 2 or 3 kids with 8 and 50 million whatever and whether 16 million is enough for retirement …..this post warmed my heart and I smiled. Hey! I am the same age and a fed and have the same in my TSP but less in savings more around 10K because of young kiddos. And I am still worth more than my family ever had in their life! Congratulations I know it’s not easy ❤️ |
LFG OP!!!! Crushing it |
