Can’t shake phlegm at back of throat

Anonymous
Two weeks ago I got a head cold, it lasted a week. Since then, I haven’t been able to shake the wad of phlegm at the back of my throat. I have to clear my throat constantly, it’s affecting my speaking, and I still sound congested/nasal-y. And it’s not just a feeling, I do expel actual clear phlegm. No other symptoms. Allergy meds not helping.

Try a decongestant, lots of fluids and time…

This is post nasal drip. It’s annoying. I found relief from swabbing it out in the morning and gargling with Listerine. Also, used the pure saline nose drops up each nostril. It was residual from a cold as well. Of course, drink lots of water.

Claritin D - ask for it at the pharmacist. It's not out on the floor - you have to speak to the pharmacist person.

Agree with PPs.

Post nasal drip causes the phlegm. You could try the allergy medication, but more importantly try guaifenesin, it's an expectorant. It works by thinning and loosening mucus in the airways. You need to drink a lot of water as PPs said. It's OTC.

With the bolded part be prepared for lots of coughing & hacking until cleared.

I’m right there with you sister! It’s quite the PITA. I wish I had a suction hose to stick back there.
