Capitol Hill Montessori 4th grade experience

Rising 4th and just got in off WL. Our child has an iep and needs support in reading especially and writing. Anyone have any experience there? I like that it goes thru 8th grade.

Does your child have Montessori experience?

No.

I pulled my kids out of CHM years ago before the renovation, but they were not equipped to deal with my ADHD child back then. I don't know how things are now. IMO, a DCPS-run Montessori program is not equipped to deal with children with learning difficulties--that was my experience.

I think two big advantages of CHML are (1) having one primary classroom teacher to reach an understanding with on accommodations (vs many different teachers in a typical middle school) and (2) if your child has difficulty dealing with transitions, CHML is much better than a traditional middle school. Have you applied to ITDS?

I wouldn’t chose CHML after primary or lower elementary. Easy for kids to get lost in the shuffle there and as the kids get older one teacher for multiple grades doesn’t cut it. No idea about IEP implementation but eduction overall will not be as good as other schools. (And yes, I had kids there until mid elementary)
