What are your go-to restaurant or grocery foods (only access to a mini fridge and small microwave) when you are traveling and get diarrhea? After you're through the worst of it, but if you're still feeling a little hesitant. |
Banana
Bread Rice |
Restaurant - the least oily thing on the menu. Usually a salad with a good amount of fiber. Minimize dairy.
Grocery - fresh fruit especially berries and bananas, oats and healthy yogurts, rice cakes + peanut butter |
If you have access to a grocery store, just buy some Imodium. |
I don’t eat anything with fiber when I have diarrhea. So basically a BRAT diet or as close to that as possible. No dairy. It’s hard because normally I eat lots of fruit and veggies and a decent amount of dairy but my stomach just can’t handle that stuff when it’s already upset. |
Aren’t you supposed to let diarrhea run its course? |
I get the opposite problem when I travel |
pepto |
lol, no. If you are concerned about GI upset while traveling, don’t eat salad at all. |
No? At least I’ve never heard that. |
Google best health food restaurants near me. Look for the ones that are hardcore hippish, lots of whole grain, kombucha, fermented food, meal bowls, etc. I started doing this years ago. Really works. |
Definitely no salad! Beyond BRAT, I stick with chicken breast or white fish, avocado, eggs and cooked veggies.
No dairy, caffeine, alcohol or fried foods |
When I travel I never eat salads or raw vegetables or have them on my plate. No ice either. No raw fish unless in Japan. |
Pasta and crackers. |
It depends. Are you traveling abroad or domestically? I never eat street food when I travel abroad because that’s what triggers my td. I will only eat at reputable restaurants. And that’s still a gamble because you just never know.
But if I’m traveling, domestically, I have the opposite issue and then I just increase my intake of fiber. I will drink a green smoothie or anything with probiotics to try and keep me regular. |
