Was thinking about this. What DC Private would people say is most famous on a national level.
I think top three are: St Alban’s, Sidwell, and Prep. Any other rankings? |
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn
Sorry [Yaaaaaaaaaaaawn]^2 |
The vast majority of people don't know the name of ANY private school, even in their own cities, but can tell you all about sports teams and celebrities. That's famous to most people.
So you need to narrow your question to famous among what crowd? Who are you trying to impress? |
I think Sidwell is “famous” because of presidents kids going there and prep because of kavanaugh |
I hadn't heard of any of them until DCUM. |
Famous? No. Known in discreet circles? Yes. There are two of them. |
infamous |
Knew of STA (Gore, John Kerry, Bush son, Marriotts, Roosevelts, etc... and many others) and NCS (Gore's daughters, Bush was on the governing board, and others), Sidwell (Did not hear of it until Clintons) |
None. DC is still considered a " cow town" by most of the country. |
I promise you that people outside the area do not think about any DC schools. I had heard of one or two before I moved here, but it was in one ear out the other. |
used to be true, but since politics evolved into branding it's changed. Also, during Trump's admin, it was required to be here, pay your dues (stay at his hotel) and ask for handouts in person... and the burbs have evolved into the new jersey. |
and people outside of Cleveland don't think of schools in Cleveland, or in Chicago, or in Texas. There are a handful of fancy private schools that, if you found the right person, might be able to name outside their geographic area. Consulting my original Preppy Handbook, the only DC area school noted as worth going to is Madeira. |
You pick 100 random adults in DC and the adjacent counties, unlikely more than 10 would recognize more than 3 of the "famous" local private schools. Only a small sliver of the population cares. |
only Sidwell because of the Presidential children. |
Before I moved to DC from Boston, I had only heard of Sidwell. That’s because of the Obamas. |
