Anyone else fantasize about country life?

Can you afford to pay for help keeping everything maintained?

Also the ceilings all look really low in the photos.

It would be crazy to take on a property like this right?

No? You grew up in a very rural area so you have some idea of what it is like. Do you have any friends who still live there? Maybe they can give you a sense of what it's like to raise kids in a rural area these days. But otherwise, I don't see anything wrong with moving rural if that's what you want. Just know what you are getting into.

For $1.6M I can think of many other places I'd rather live. Even though yes, it look beautiful.

I don't want to drive 45 minutes to the grocery store or to soccer practice, for starters.

Yes, but I can't stand the constant drone of my hick neighbors' ATV's.

OP again - I think it's easy for me to remember the good parts of it while conveniently forgetting the hard parts. Our pipes would freeze every winter, septic and well water issues, the sheer cost of maintaining a property like this. It's not for the weak of heart (or pocketbook, for that matter!)
Anyway, thanks for letting me indulge my fantasy for a moment.

I'll buy it lol

I know there’s a barn but it’s really too small for horses. No arena, and not enough turnout with no dry lot. It would just be a lot to manage for little reward.

+1

For that price, I'd choose midcoast Maine (for example).

I have those thoughts too, OP. it’s not worth it though unless you are about that life. Get your itch scratched by booking an Airbnb like that for a week or two. Leave the repairs and hardship for somebody else

Nice!

My husband grew up in a rural area and hated it. Bad schools, lots of weird scary backroads encounters, people kept stealing stuff from their farm to sell for meth.

Do you know anyone there? It could easily take a generation to break in socially.

I have a 800 sqft 1940s lake cottage in a small town in New England. Actually here right now. Perfect escape place. I do feel the water pain issues and just shelled out thousands for a generator after suffering through burst frozen pipes a few years back, but it’s a much ch more reasonable way to dip into country life.
