My kids live a very privileged life. 13yo DS expressed interest in getting a job over camps and traveling. I would love for him to understand the value of money.
What type of job can a 13yo get? |
I would have him mow lawns and pull weeds. Put an ad on the listserv for your neighborhood. If he gets offers, buy him a lawn mower as an upfront cost that he can slowly deduct and pay you back from jobs. He will learn the value of money.
Or he can try to get a CIT camp counselor job. |
DD is that age and works as a soccer referee. |
Mother's helper, gardening, etc. |
My 14 year old works as a teen volunteer at a summer camp. She did last year too. |
It used to be 13 to work as a CIT at most camps, now that age requirement has been moved up. |
You have to pay to enroll, but if you are interested, Camp Invention has a sort of CIT program.

My 13 yo will be a CIT at Y camp this summer. It is not paid, but she also doesn't have to pay anything. |
Mowing lawns and babysitting. |
That’s not true. It’s not as expensive as being a camper, but you do have to pay a fee to be a CIT. My daughter did it at the Reston location and it was a joke. She basically felt like a babysitter and learned nothing. |
Child actor. |
Baby sitter until 15, then lifeguard |
