Last year, I was stung by a sting Ray. Yes, I was doing the sting Ray shuffle. It didn’t work.
It was one of the worst experiences of my life and required surgery and a long recovery. I am so afraid of this happening to me or my kids, but I LOVE the ocean and so do they. We are traveling to the same place where it happened for Mother’s Day. Sting Ray stings are becoming a daily occurrence there Is there any type of boot or footwear I can buy to protect my kids? I have looked and not found any good solutions. I’ve heard water shoes and neoprene boots make no difference, but I keep thinking that thick scuba boots would at least make any sting less severe. |
My best advice is avoid going into the water during low tide and if you’re in the water start swimming on your belly or back as soon as possible, and don’t touch the ground with your feet until you’re right next to the shore. |
Why go back to the same place? Where it is now a daily occurrence? |
Just don’t go there? |
Where is this? |
Op here. San Carlos/Guaymas, Mexico. We are going back there because we have a hook up for a free beach house. |
Op here. My kids are too small to follow this advice, unfortunately. |
It's worth the free beach house?? Weird priorities lady. |
They do make reef type shoes that have a thicker bottom. I've used them while diving as well as places where I have to walk through tough terrain in the water. They can be kind of heavy and awkward so for kids I wouldn't recommend if they are swimming around. DS is 11 and has them and wasn't a huge fan of how he felt weighed down by them. |
I think just swim somewhere else. That must be a very unique place. |
Op here. It’s driving distance (we live in Arizona) and the only way we can afford a vacation with our kids. |
Op here. I’ve looked at these! Do you think they’d protect my kids from a sting Ray? |
And you're worried before and you'll be worried there and no one will have fun in the water. Some vacation. |
They'll just be walking in the water? PP said its not for swimming. |
Op here. I know my kids won’t like it but hoping it could work even for swimming |
