How much to fund a scholarship?

How much does a person have to donate to fund a scholarship at a school?

Are you funding an endowed scholarship, a named scholarship, adding to the existing scholarship endowment? Do you intend for it to be a one shot deal or invested, spinning off 5% per year to go to scholarships? will you dictate the terms or allow the school to choose when and how to use the funds? Etc. etc. A lot to consider.

Probably best to talk directly to the school’s development office.

I like money! This should be the motto of Christian schools.

How else do you expect Christian schools to pay their teachers an even close to living wage (which some don't, to be fair), keep the lights on, and have space to have class exactly?

...and give scholarships to the kids who can't afford to attend.

This sounds like someone snooping about the parents of a kid's classmate who created a scholarship

FWIW, a fully endowed scholarship is probably about $1.5 million nowadays - figuring a 4% annual draw from the endowment to spin off $60K/year to fund a full tuition

Exact figures vary but that's a good ballpark number. Although not every school requires a full endowment to name a scholarship and not everything called a scholarship really is - like if the Class of 2024 raises $50,000 for its Senior Class gift that the Development office then calls "The Class of 2024 scholarship" and is then used to supplement the financial aid budget for a few years until it is depleted

Varies greatly. You could literally fund a scholarship toward something for as little as a few hundred dollars. Wide variety.

It really depends on the situation and the school's gift acceptance policy.
As another poster said, you should speak with the fundraising office. A good one will have options to suggest to you. Let it be said though that if you have under $10K to put into your scholarship but want to help, then you might want to look into making a single, one-time gift to support your area of interest. As the donor you can place parameters on your money such as "financial aid" or "for entering Kindergarteners" or "the music program". You don't have to be "rich" to be a philanthropist, however, if you have the cash to give, why not give it to education? Independent schools could really do something good with your gift as they don't have the benefit of getting funds from local, state, or federal governments because of their independent status.
