It is not true.
https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-68949240 She died of a heart attack, probably due to exhaustion. Plus, she nearly didn’t get in because of oppression of healthy-weight peoples. |
Yeah, so what? Everyone knows this. Unfortunately, urban legends persist. |
If you read the article, it explains how the story was initially released, that it was not an urban legend. |
People only like to perpetuate the rumor because haha, isn't it so funny that the fat woman died eating? haha
(sarcasm, obviously, but this is how some people really thing!) |
Exhaustion and issues related to her obesity |
Choking on food, and dying from having already eaten more food than the body can handle, one doesn’t seem more or less stigmatized than the other. |
Jimi Hendrix: Deceased… drugs.
Janis Joplin: Deceased… alcohol. Mama Cass: Deceased… ham sandwich. |
+1 My thoughts too. |
Mama Cass had one helluva voice. I love her rendition of “Dream a Little Dream of Me.” Definitely a voice made for Broadway that worked just as well with the Mamas and the Papas’ harmonies. |
Isn't it well known that it was a heroin addiction gone bad? |
No drugs were found in her system. |
No, that's why the ham sandwich story was born. But she died of a heart attack. The truth matters to her daughter and her legacy. |
I think you mean years of drug abuse. |
Yeah she definitely did not look like a poster child for anything hard like heroin. No idea why they spun it at the time so people wouldn't think 'drugs' except the bad crap going around at the time that was killing people. I agree with her daughter that it's basically better for people to think it's a sandwich/get it wrong than to think it could be drugs. She really was the talent in that group. |
Wasn’t she Jewish? Was the ham sandwich thing supposed to be an antisemitic dig? |
