private to Churchill

Anonymous
DC wants to leave his smallish private school for more choices/clubs/sports/larger class size for our public which is Churchill. Would be starting in 10th. So far he has had straight As in private middle and ninth grade. Plays some sports but not recruitable, plays an instrument and has another outside school EC - DC would like to join activities /classes at Churchill related to robotics, computer coding, engineering , jazz etc.
Wondering if anyone that has done this could comment on their experience. Current Churchill parents feel free to comment on the good, the bad and the ugly. TIA!

My children came straight from the feeders, but we have loved the teachers and overall experience. My kids are polar opposites, but both have had great years (current 10th and 12th).

From what private? I don’t know any student wbo wants to leave private to go to public. It’s the opposite. This is a first for me to hear.

Lots of kids transfer into MCPS high school from private. Don’t know what you are talking about

You all need to talk to more people then. The situation described happens quite a bit especially from private to the top MCPS schools like Churchill, Whitman, Wootton. Privates can be great for many kids but a public school like Churchill offers more APs, more clubs, more extracurricular opportunities, and wait for it.....it's not $40,000 a year.

Lots? I don’t think so. Some, sure. Most are transferring into privates. Not the other way around. Public school admittance has dropped since covid and privates are up. You don’t know what you are talking about.

Wait for it……my children’s tuition is below $40 grand a year. You forgot more students per classroom, more disruptions, more bathrooms being used for drug use, etc.

Well except for the application programs which are much better than any private.

So you have no idea (aside from what you read here) because your kids are in private. My nephew begged to leave private, and his parents finally gave in. They realized it was a much better fit for him. He is doing very well. A bit awkward as Dad teaches at the private but life goes on.

You can not be this stupid.

FYI I went from private to public in HS and it was a great decision.

NO not the PP however you are incorrect.

There have always been feeder schools to public.

More kids always left private for HS wonder why? COLLEGE admissions.

Not the PPP, but yes many kids transfer in for HS. In fact it’s sometimes the entire plan for some families.

DP but yes, a lot. HS is when many private kids transfer and where MCPS got its biggest enrollment bump.
