Why is this election any different?

Are we facing the most consequential presidential election of our time? Why every election is labeled as such? Isn't every election consequential? Every second of every life is consequential? Why dramatize whatever election we happen to be facing as THE ONE? Is it because for first time we have two equally bad choices?

Would we be repeating the same line again in four years or next election would be called the most ordinary and inconsequential one?

I don't recall people saying this in 2012. And maybe someday when somebody other than Trump is the GOP nominee we can return to that.

Because the GOP is telling us they would end the republic as we know it, and are not coming close to hiding it.

Really? How? Specify what the GOP is saying that would "end the republic as we know it."

+1 Because Trump has raised the stakes. There have been existential issues on the ballot before - but Trump is a whole different ballgame.

You can hear about how he wants to end our republic in his own words, if you want to.

Exhibit #1 as to why this is consequential - because people like this exist and refuse to remove their cranium from their rear end.

Because the media cycle has taken over everybody’s collective consciousness. Try not watching or reading any “news” for a few weeks and you’ll find out how inconsequential all this really is in the end.

The “republic is going to end” dorks can continue mashing away at their keyboards instead of doing something useful with their life before they die.

Because Trump has genuinely said that he'll become a dictator if elected. The choice is between democracy and authoritarianism. It's that simple.

Also, he'll be dead in four years.

Trump is the difference.

So none of this affects you? How fortunate.

Seriously. Clearly not a woman of childbearing years.

Or person of color.
Or Muslim.
Or Jewish.
Or LGBT.
Or old.
Or in school.
Or suffering from a preexisting condition.
Or middle class.
Or poor.
Or a regular taxpayer.

Trump is great if you’re a white, male, Protestant multimillionaire or billionaire.

Cause we have 2 idiots on a scale never seen that are totally comparable. Don't give me the Trump is worst than Biden speech.

Trump's personality and ideology - he is a nightmare but the GOP (right wing) has already established itself, with or without Trump. Biden is a joke. He is too old. Period. To be in a position as powerful as POTUS. It's not just about age, it's about Biden. He is not in his right mind nor physically capable of the responsibilities. So the idea of Biden being "best case scenario" is totally illogical.

We have 2 fools, neither of which have the capacity for this position. The thing about the other candidates is that while you may like/not like them politically, you can't suggest they were physically and mentally unable to perform the job. In the past, it has always been about choice. This time around, there is no choice!!! They are both totally unfit.

That's quite a bit of false equivalence.

The choices aren't "equally" bad but it is the first time in our history we don't have at least one major party candidate that most can agree is fit to lead the country for the duration of the term they are seeking. For this reason, this election does present us with the two weakest major party candidates in American history. Acknowledging this fact and demanding better from our two failing major political parties is the first crucial step in recovery by 2028.
