Is there a different between ECNLR at big club and smaller/medium sized ones?

Anonymous
I see all the big ECNL clubs have ECNL R as their second team. Is there a quality difference between these 2nd teams and clubs that don't have regular ECNL but are a part of the ECNLR program? What about clubs where ECNLR is the only team at that age and gender? Will they still have to travel to NC and/or NJ to play?

also asking do the ECNL-R teams around here travel to the tournaments in SC/AZ/TN etc or is that something that clubs not on the East Coast tend to do?

ECNL-RL typically involves a lot less travel than ECNL. There are, however, some ECNL-RL national events that involve travel out of the area (like Florida, for example). See this past year's events at https://theecnl.com/sports/2023/9/11/ECNLRLG_0911232245.aspx?path=ecnl-rl-girls.

Thank you- this is helpful. I find the ECNL page hard to navigate. The MLS Next one too.

I wouldn't say there's necessarily a big difference based on the size of the club although the bigger clubs are the ones who have an ECNL team and on those cases, their RL teams may have a couple of "dual roster" or "discovery" players who play on the RL team but get some opportunities to train with the ECNL team. You can take a look at the results and standings for RL teams at https://theecnl.com/sports/2023/8/8/ECNLRLG_0808235427.aspx.

Anybody can download the ecnl app and check on all league results for both NL and RL. Yes the bigger clubs’ RL tend to be a lot better than the smaller clubs RL teams.

Very much depends on the age group and the club.

Loudoun 2005/06 = 1st place out of 10
Loudoun 2011 = 8th place out of 10

The RL records for most organizations are all over the map with different ages groups.
