Ap tests with wellness blocks

Anonymous
Our school has wellness blocks mixed in during AP tests next week. If my child and I would rather they stay home and study then attend these wellness blocks, what excuse can I write in the absence note for school. Basically, I’m asking for ideas on excuses that DCUM parents write for their child?

Since there are no penalties due unexcused absences anymore, I would just not write a lying note.

Are you saying that your child does not have an AP exam on a particular day, and instead of class the school has wellness?

I would use the classic "was not feeling well" or "felt ill"

Op here. Yes, for the first half of the school day there is wellness block then afternoon classes. They would like to study at home and miss the wellness block in the morning.

Sick. My kids are always sick regardless of why they’re missing school.

At our school they are not mandatory. Kids can come in late, no excuse needed.

Op here. Oh really. At our school they said they were checking attendance even in the wellness blocks.

If your kid hasn't racked up a ton of unexcused absences then there really is no penalty for missing this week. Why are you worried?

It's hilarious that people tell MCPS they believe schools should invest more in social-emotional learning, and then when they do, parents come on DCUM and ask how they can get their kids out of the SEL they insisted schools should be providing. This is why we're a mess as a school district.

It's needed fur other kids...not ones own

I would tell my kid I was not going to lie for them but there are no consequences for the unexcused absence.

Some kids have slightly different circumstances from others, and on a particular day a particular event is not a good fit for those kids, so they make other plans. It's OK. The world won't stop turning. Don't need the drama of (some) overly excitable bored PPs.

My kid would prefer their "wellness" block at home rather than in a school with 2500 kids. They can concentrate better at home.

My child would prefer to have less homework. What type of note should I write?
