How would you handle this Mother’s Day weekend?

Anonymous
My DH works in a field where he works occasional weekends. It never fails that he works MD weekend. I’ve never been one to celebrate, but our parents go crazy, and this is the first year my oldest DD has expressed a real interest in celebrating, so I’m excited for that.

I typically visit my mother on Saturday with my children. DH typically visits his mother when it’s convenient, taking her to lunch sometime in the days surrounding the holiday. Only this year he will be home, but I selfishly want to keep him and my children home with me this year, especially since my DD has grand plans.

When should DH visit his mother?

If I were you I would invited his mom and your mom over on Sunday for a Mother's Day cookout and let your daughter plan the event from menu to activities. Doesn't that sound like fun?

What? You said he isn’t working the weekend. He can go see her on Saturday, as you said you see your mom on Saturday.

You are a grown woman and a parent. I think or at least I hope you can figure this one out without having to crowdsource.

Shoot! I thought I put it in my OP but I didn’t:

MIL likes for him to bring the kids. They will be with me on Saturday!

I hope everyone sees this! Ugh, my mistake.

You split Sat between your mom and his. One mom gets brunch together and the other gets dinner together. Sunday it’s just you and the kids.

No one needs to see this mistake. You are a big girl. You can handle this.

As you said. Thanks for your commentary. It wasn’t helpful.

My parents are a day-long drive. Would it be horrible to send him without our kids?

Wasn’t intended to be helpful. Hence the comment that you can handle this.

Shouldn’t you discuss that with him?

He told me to decide how I want the weekend to play out. I want to honor everyone while also sort of being selfish on Sunday.

If he told you to decide then why are you crowdsourcing this?

Why not take the kids to visit MIL Saturday morning, then go out to dinner with Mother Saturday night, then Sunday is all for you?

Good Lord! OP is just waiting for someone to give her the answer she wants.
