I know this post will upset people. I don’t want to engage about whether pet-friendly forms should exist.
We have a trained ESA at home (dog visits hospitals and nursing homes) and DD is realizing how much comfort she receives by spending time with dog. She is not eligible for an ESA, but would love to find a college/ dorm where there are pets in residence. She does plan to volunteer when possible at humane society etc. But that work is emotionally taxing in itself. What colleges have you found that have pet-friendly forms? We are aware of Eckerd. Thanks for any suggestions! |

She doesn’t want her own dog at school while she is in the dorms. She wants to live in a dorm where there are pets she can interact with. She may eventually get a cat (more down-friendly). She is also considering trying to get a dog-walking or pet sitting part time job.
Her preferred situation would be a roommate with a dog or cat. |
MIT has dorms that allow cats and dorms that turn a blind eye to smaller pets (my roommate has a hedgehog). Not sure that’s a good reason to apply unless you actually want to attend though. |
This is a good thing and should be universal. Also, pets in the workplace. |

There is no way i could not have a cat. I simply lived off-campus. It was cheaper, too. |
Just live off campus. How hard is that? |
We visited La Salle in Philly and they mentioned a pet friendly dorm.

I get that she will miss her dog but that is just too much responsibility. The dog deserves better. |
You bonehead. Try reading it all again. |
She could apply to TUSTEP at Tulane where you train service dogs. It is competitive, but they get apartment style dorms so the dogs can live with them. Also, if you don’t want the responsibility of actually raising the dog you can get trained to be a puppy sitter for the TUSTEP program. My DD is a puppy sitter and it satisfies her “dog fix” at college.

I don’t think I would choose a school based on this, but gl. I think it’s also hard to leave home and she’s probably hyper focused on this. |
You’re seriously going to let your kid pick a college based on pet policies? |
This is my son’s dream activity. I had no idea there were college programs like this. Thanks for sharing. |
