Umich or Wisc for CS

Academically? Placement?

Just look up the stats yourself and avoid inevitable pointless back and forth. Juxtaposing these schools is a red flag on this site.

Consider this a warning.

Academically, probably similar.
Placement, Michigan likely has a slight edge. Google "XXX university first destinations" or "XXX uni computer science outcomes" to see salary surveys they post.

Michigan has better 'pedigree' but is prob. $20K/yr more expensive than Wisco and you need to decide if that cost is worth it.

Whichever is cheaper.

I think for state schools you need to remember that majority of kids from that state. So think about that.

Michigan and Wisconsin are both ~half OOS.

Didn't know that. But still..half Michigan residents very different from half Wisconsin residents.

I would consider these two schools equal for computer science departments, so pick based on other things that matter to you.

Umich has Sam Zell

Doesn't make a difference at all. They might as well be the exact same school.

I'd say the difference is negligible and how well a student does hiring wise out of those schools depends on how well they do in their classes and internships. I'd say both have similar negatives in that they've expanded quite quickly and feel some stress in undergrad housing.

So if your kid is lucky enough to have gotten into both, it just depends on things like cost, how they liked the feel of the campus, availability of secondary programs (I had a friend who doubled in CS and vocal performance, for instance).
