How did you celebrate your dd/ds ‘s 1st birthday?

What did you do to celebrate? How many people if a full blown party? How long was it? What was the venue?
Did your child enjoy it ?

The 1st bday is for the adults, your child won't remember. For each, we had a large party, that included family and other families with approx one-year olds. For the second, thankfully it was summer and it was all outside, because by then there were also a bunch of nearly 4 year olds, and running around outside was perfect

We were in Paris at the time, and I remember having ice cream walking past the Eiffel Tower.

I made lemon meringue tarts for my older. Ginger cake for my son. Aside from an usually fancy dessert (usually we just have fruit at the end of dinner), it was a normal day.

We invited grandparents, aunts, and uncles for an afternoon party. We had a theme (baseball) and ballpark-themed snacks plus burgers and hotdogs . We also bought a premade cake. It was nice for the family and my child because those were the people he liked spending time around the most at that age.

We love hosting parties so it was really an excuse to have a party. We hosted at home, invited probably 60 people I think like 45 came. It was November but luckily we had spectacular weather and most people were outside.

I got a 6 foot sub because it was my family’s tradition growing up. Other food was finger foods or snack foods that I made or got from Costco. Went a little over the top on theme and labeled everything with cute names, had lots of balloons, did a home made balloon arch, grocery store cake, and bubble favors.

It was a lot but not like TikTok party planner over the top. Just a big old family house party.

No big party. My family lived in another city, so I think I picked up a cupcake for him. My DH traveled frequently so I imagine he was out of town.

We had a family party for about 10 of us. I ordered a cake and we had balloons. Grandma played with the birthday child while we setup dinner. It was really nice.

I set up an awesome cake smash photoshoot at home, and had a low key little party with the grandparents. Went out to eat.

We don't have local family but were happy to have a house party with other families we had met in the neighborhood because we all had babies around the same time. We did a brunch in between Nap times. Nothing formal but we did thank the other families for being our support network. Low key and fun.

Made cupcakes out of a box, had her smoosh one. Just the 3 of us, then just the 4 of us for kid #2

We hosted about 35 people at our home (almost all adults - family and close friends). Had a cake, food, cookies, drinks. A really fond memory for me but truly for us and not for the baby.

For our kids’ 1st bdays we’ve done large parties (either catering or cookouts) b/c all 3 of mine are born between April - September so we can host people using our back yard/porch.

We invite our friends/family since babies are just happy to have whoever around.

As they get older it will become more about their friends whereas the 1st birthday is for the parents.

If you want to take a trip or just do low key immediate family that is great too. You’ve just survived the first year, which is tough, so do what makes you happy. Oh and cake of course. Watching a baby smash up a cake is one of the joys of parenting.
