Please tell me what to do. My oven (at least 12 years old, as that’s when I bought the house and it was here then) has been becoming less and less reliable. I bought a Thermo oven thermostat to track and temps are all over the place. Right now my crostata is supposed to be baking at 425 but the oven is apparently 470. Yesterday while trying to roast a chicken it wouldn’t go above 325. The burners are sketchy in lighting, but that’s easy to deal with as they are gas.
Thing is, I want to redo the kitchen in another year, maybe 2, and would like the option to do separate cooktop and wall oven(s). So I really don’t want to invest in a new oven now. But maybe I need to? I do a lot of cooking and baking. Tell me, DCUM, what should I do? |
Buy a used oven from Community Forklift or other secondhand appliance store. |

Get a large toaster oven. Should handle most foods.
Or just get it repaired. |
It's probably your thermostat probe. Look up the model online and you can probably buy the part for 12-20$. They're not complicated to replace if you have any skills and there are tons of videos showing you how, maybe even specific to your model. |
I would repair or replace now, since your remodel is 2+ years away. But as an alternative you could get an air fryer and a standalone induction burner. We use the air fryer for anything that will fit, rather than heat up the oven. My parents keep an induction burner on top of the gas cooktop and use it because it's faster. |

Buy a Breville counter top convection oven/airfryer. I have a perfectly good big oven and I rarely use it because I prefer the Breville. Next time I renovate my kitchen, I’m going to build in a shelf for the Breville. |
