Love this video that exposes how much BS car buying is:
It should honestly be illegal to price gouge consumers this bad and for the car dealership cartel from blocking consumers’ ability to buy directly from automakers. |
“Market Value Selling Price” then gets “adjusted” another $2K! Ha! |
The "adjustment" is due to supply and demand? So if I buy canned pumpkin when it's in stock during a shortage, the Giant should make a "price adjustment" for me to pay more? FYI all car buyers: The Maryland "processing fee" is NOT required by law: https://wanada.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Dealer-Processing-Charge.pdf |
Darcars Toyota Silver Spring just tried to pull this with me. They added a two thousand dollar dealer markup (even though they had a dozen of that model on the lot, so not high demand). Plus $1300 in some b.s. fees. Plus they didn’t give me the $1000 Toyota incentive being offered for the model. So basically started almost $4500 above a reasonable amount. Probably figuring that I’d be happy paying MSPR plus their stupid fees. But I knew that recent sales were trending $3000 below MSPR. So I went someplace else that had a lot less b.s. and got the price I wanted. |
... and if a dealer does charge it, they need to post it conspicuously on the car. (We negotiated it away.) |
This is what happens when you are a moron who walks into a dealership instead of emailing. |
No, it's complete 🐎 💩. The market adjustment is just a huge price gouge by the dealership for no reason. The dude was able to buy the car with the adjustment completely removed! The fact that the dealer still sold it means they're still making a profit even after it is nixed. Just complete garbage and why everyone hates dealerships. It should be illegal price gouging a car up almost an entire 10% just for pure greed and profits. This is why the car dealership cartel needs to be smashed and consumers should be allowed to buy cars directly from manufacturers at their listed retail price with no BS 3rd party on the middle trying to game you out of thousands of Dollars for no reason. |
If there is shortage of canned pumpkins Giant won’t have them in stock but you could find them for triple the price on eBay. That is how markets work friend. |
He’s not a moron at all. He went in. Seemed prepared. Humored the staff. Appears to have gotten his target price or close to it. Did he overpay? Probably. But he decided to do that. |
Reminds me of why I haven't gone into a dealership in 20 years |
Aren’t Teslas no haggle? |
Where? |
Yes, and direct sales too -- no franchised dealer model. The dealerships (who sell other brands) eally lobbied against it, as they like the current model which lets them gouge the customer. |
Oh and last year, the Tesla Model Y was #5 best selling vehicle in the US and Model 3 was #12, so they are showing the direct to consumer model can work. https://www.kbb.com/best-cars/top-10-25-best-selling-cars-trucks-suvs/ |
Yes. Love him or hate him, Elon Musk is 10000000% right to demand that consumers have the ability to buy directly from the manufacturer. Excluding taxes and state fees you can’t do anything about, there is zero reason why someone in Maryland should pay a higher sticker price than say someone in Minnesota for the exact same damn car. Car dealerships need to die already. |
