Did you really get the malaria and typhoid vaccines before the trip? Wondering how worried I should be.

I did not. I was fine.

We got malaria. I don't remember typhoid recommended at the time.

We went spring break 2023 and definitely did not get those vaccines. We were fine.

No. Good god no. They got mosquitos cause it's the tropics. But you're not going to Africa! It's the islands.

Is your expertise above the CDC?

CDC recommends that travelers going to certain areas of Costa Rica take prescription medicine to prevent malaria. Depending on the medicine you take, you will need to start taking this medicine multiple days before your trip, as well as during and after your trip. Talk to your doctor about which malaria medication you should take.

No, and I've been 3 times, including to the Osa Peninsula.

When I had my kid (before you could store your kid's cord blood), I was going to donate the cord blood. A nurse spent 45 minutes on the phone with me asking about every imaginable disease. They kicked me out of the program because we'd spent 5 days at a Mexican resort, which was deemed a malaria risk.

We did not.

A friend did end up in the hospital in CR with Dengue fever, so there are definitely mosquito born illnesses there.

I didn't even know this was a thing. I went right before the pandemic and did not. There are a ton of mosquitos though.

Nope. Went twice no vax either time.

No required vaccines. We went in March… no issues

We should definitely take the advice of someone who thinks Costa Rica is an island.
