Do you allow your tweens and tend to have computers and cell phones in their bedrooms? I had always heard not to do so, so that is our house rule, but my sixth grader is saying that "everyone" has their computer in their room and no limits on where they can use phones. |
I allow them in their bedrooms, but my 13yo has to bring his phone to the kitchen at 9pm to plug it in for the night - he can't keep it in his room overnight. My 16yo has proven his responsibility, so I don't make him give up his phone overnight. He doesn't really use it at night, though ... if he did, I'd probably make him give it up too. |
No |
Why does it matter what everyone else does?
Our kid has to put his phone away at 9 also but we don’t control where he goes with it before then. His sleep habits are so much better because of it. He gets messages from friends all night long. It’s crazy. |
Phone in bedroom is fine until 9pm. Then it’s in kitchen until 6:30a next day. They have normal alarm clocks. |
Yes they’re allowed in their rooms. |
Oh, hell no. |
No but I think it’s kid dependent. Both my teen boys would stay up all night playing video games on their phones or computers, regardless of whether they have a big test or a big sports game early the next morning. I trust them in many other areas, but the ability to control their desire to play Video games all night is not one of them! |
Nope
Cell yep 9 pm Once mine were juniors in HS yes to both bec college is around the corner. If I could not trust them then how could they be trusted at college . We had all passwords to social media and checked it often. Yep we were those parents . A computer is not your kids diary We never had issues s it’s computers Phones yes and at times I suspended service . Also no phones at dinner adults as well and Sunday morning Dim sum. |
No. I let my 18 yo have them in his room when he turned 17 but phone has to charge at 10. My 16 is way more addicted so she can’t have any devices in her room at any time of day. |
Middle school all electrics plugged in by 9:30pm.
High school they can have their phones in their room but I have daily app limits on snap, tik/tok, and insta, and complete downtime set from 10:30 to 7am thru my phone/family sharing. |
We allow both and expect our children to use good judgment. |
Yes but not overnight.
Tween is 11. Phone charges in my room overnight. Chromebook charges downstairs or stays in backpack once homework is done on it. |
That's funny, because my DD claims the same thing about "everyone", and yet all of the parents I know say they have limits on screen time and no electronics in the bedroom past a certain hour in the evening. |
We do this. They know the dangers of social media. The oldest 2 are in college and you get is 15. We haven’t had any problems letting them do this. |
