This thread is full of Islamophobic posts that I think it should be deleted.

OP again. Looks like you just deleted it. Thank you!

I feel weird posting this, but why are anti-Islam threads instantly deleted, but the anti-Catholic threads (currently the thinly-veiled "Changing Face of Catholicism" and "communion wafer" threads) allowed to remain?

I'm not Catholic, have no Catholic family members, and would never convert, yet these threads jump out with their bigotry.

I and others report individual posts, but usually just those individual posts are deleted and the rest of the threads are allowed to stand. It seems like a double-standard?

What I understand you to be saying is that I delete the posts that you ask me to delete but that's not good enough. I am not a mind reader so if you think the entire thread should be deleted, you should say so. Moreover, the "anti-Catholic" posts tend to be along the lines of "the Church protects pediphiles" which at least has some basis while the anti-Islam threads are more more explicitly bigoted. This particular thread was also anti-Jewish.

So because Catholics have a more central authority, bigotry is allowed? If I said that islam teaches unsavory things x,y,z, that would be deleted. Or that Muhammad was/did x,y,z, also deleted. Seems like a double standard. And I am not even arguing for you to delete the anti Catholicism threads, but to not auto delete anything negative about Islam. If we can criticize Catholicism, we should be allowed to criticize Islam.

What I am saying is that I almost always delete the posts that are reported to me. It is rather strange to be criticized for doing what I am asked to do. I didn't say anything about a central authority. What you seem to have misunderstood is that the criticism of Catholicism often has some basis in reality whereas the posts about Islam are more often to be based on false or misunderstood information. To be clear, I even delete those anti-Catholic posts when they are reported. Why don't you start a thread criticizing Islam and let's see how long it stays connected to reality? You sound very much like the White racists who complain that they cannot use the N-word.

Im OP and my first post on that thread was about Quranic divorce, inheritance, and rape laws and I didn’t editorialize or insult the religion or anybody, I just laid it out. This was in response to somebody posting something like “Islam allows for divorce etc, so you’re all wrong.” I think you know enough about the subject to know that was wrong. Yet that exchange was deleted with the rest of the thread.

Why not simply delete the bigotry, like you do with the Catholic threads? The thread was only 2-3 pages long.

Catholic here. It's not because the Roman Catholic Church has centralized authority. It's because the RCC has protected pedophiles (a statement based in fact). IOW, it's not a criticism - it's a fact-based statement.

RE your Islam example, I don't know what "unsavory things" you are referring to, but if they are fact-based statements then I'm sure Jeff would agree with you.

Yes, if you say The RCC has protected pedophiles, it is a statement of fact. If you say "Catholics" protected pedophiles, it is ambiguous and could imply that all Catholics protect pedophiles. That I would happily remove. Almost all statements about Islam fall into the second category in which posters say "Islam does such and such" when what is actually true is that "some" Muslims, often just a minority, do whatever it is. Islam doesn't have an institution similar to the Catholic Church.

I am not sure which thread you were the OP of but I deleted the thread because it was after 9:00 pm and I had been working since 7 am and I was tired and I had better things to do then go through a thread that was prejudiced from the very first post weeding out Islamophobic, and possibly anti-Semitic posts.

Thanks. I meant I’m the op of this thread, not of the deleted thread.
