Why do people like Adirondack chairs?

They look nice and they’re comfortable. They remind me of sitting by a lake.

And especially for us, because they are heavy enough not to blow off our porch like every other chair seems to do.

For some people, they evoke a certain relaxed, pastoral way of life. For the rest of us, they're just ugly and not really all that comfortable.

We used to have plastic ones from the grocery store (not kidding) that were SO freaking comfortable! And those wide arms are perfect for holding a cup of coffee or a beer!

I hate them. My husband has two on the patio. I'd rather a rocking chair.

Most aren’t designed well, too low to get out of gracefully, too rigid for comfort, seat too deep or too shallow.

But - if you are lucky enough to sit in the unicorn of curved wood, slightly higher and just the right seat depth, it’s like an ice cold beer watching a beach at sunset.

Yes! I love the arms which is like a built in coffee table (or beer table!). I find them comfortable to sit in, but yes a bit difficult to get out of lol.

I mean, sure they’re hard to get out of if you have no core strength otherwise they’re not hard to get out of.

When you are older, getting out of a chair where your butt is well below your knees is a problem. Only thing worse are very low beach chairs.

One of their best features is that you can't DO anything while you are sitting in it besides drink and look at the things around you. That's a feature, not a bug.

I find them terribly uncomfortable. My husband loves them and always wants to go sit together in the evening, and I dread it. I need to buy a replacement.

It’s impossible to get out of them when you have bad knees.
