Summer camp at a university

If you were sending your child to a summer camp for a few weeks, what would you get for their dorm room? I got a fan and bedding.

These programs should send a packing list of what’s needed—check the website or ask if you don’t see it.

But yes: bedding, fan, towels, shower caddy and flip flops/shower shoes, small amount of laundry detergent and roll of quarters if the machines still use quarters, blue tooth or other speakers, easy snacks, a few items for fun or comfort depending on their interests — pack of cards, volleyball, etc.

Piggy backing on what has already mentioned, I would add a water pitcher brita to fill up in the dorm and a water bottle. They make many different sizes nows. Sunscreen is another one that I would definitely add. Maybe a small keychain flashlight in case the power goes out for some weird reason.

Don't most schools have generators?

We normally send a charging brick in case they aren’t near a convenient outlet - it’s also good in case of a power outage. My kid did have a power outage one summer at camp on the last night and it took time to get the power back on. I don’t know if they had a flashlight other than on their phone but they definitely used the charging brick during the power outage.

It depends on the program. Check the packing list. They also usually have a pre-arrival webinar.

This is highly program specific. Kid did two programs. The first one had kids coming from all over the world, and they brought very little. The second one drew just from our state and kids came with fridges, hot pots, microwaves, the works.
