Goodness. They are our ally - why bring Japan into a conversation about immigration??! He doesn't have enough problems to deal with on the PR front with Gaza/Israel and Ukraine and our economy??!

For all you folks who keep talking about how we must vote for Biden cause Trump is the Devil... well I agree Trump is far from ideal but seriously. There have got to be standards and those who know better need to be held accountable to do better. Biden is a train wreck every bit as Trump, just in a different way. Both of them will sink this country into a gigantic hole. Just in different ways!

The fact that people are OK with Biden SIMPLY because he isn't Trump is why we have this mediocrity playing out in our government. Want better, expect better, demand better. I actually am angrier at Biden v Trump, because Trump simply does not know better and he's at least true to himself. The whole argument that there are only 2 candidates and you must support and love one of them is a loser one. This is why the Democrats have problems. Their entire platform rests on don't vote for bad guy Trump. Well, I'm not voting for a good guy if I vote Biden!!! So for all those who don't see Trump as evil, Biden surely isn't going to benefit because he's proven incompetence and he hasn't done anything that's impressed me beyond taking away student debt which sorry, truly does not help me one bit! If Biden loses, he totally deserves it. We all lose too.

Don’t vote for Biden if you don’t want to. No one cares.

Well, we do only have two candidates, Trump and Biden. Do I wish I had a magic wand to replace both? Sure, I do. In the meantime I must pick one. It will be Biden, less of a gamble and it won't please Putin, whereas Trump would.

The President made a fact-based observation and you’re whining about it? What’s that old song, “too much time on my hands”…

If Biden wins, we all win. If Trump wins, we all lose and America is done.

I agree OP. It's absurd for him to call Japan xenophobic. A country has a right to decide its own vision. There is nothing wrong with a country that has its own history and culture, to want to retain its identity and heritage. Not everyone wants to be like America. And America is not even that great nowadays. All the countries that have "welcomed" immigrants indiscriminately are having serious issues with cultural fragmentation and lack of assimilation.

Japanese here.

It's true, and it's one of the reasons why Japan's economy was so sluggish for so many years. No Japanese government has ever really softened their stance on immigration.

Nevertheless, Biden was rude. The average person knows not to always say everything that's on their mind. The top executive of the most powerful country in the world should not either.

When he does that, he reminds the world of Trump. Lack of a filter is a symptom of cognitive decline. Not a good look!

Fourth generation American here.

I agree with all of this. He's correct but shouldn't criticize our ally like that. And it does seem to point to lack of filter and beginning of senility.

Bumbling, stumbling dementia Joe at it again.

Japan is a pretty homogeneous population and has been for centuries. Just because Bubliing, stumbling dementia Joe opened the borders to let floods of illegals in doesn’t mean Japan would want to do the same. Having lived there the Japanese adore their culture, their peace and way of life. They’re like American goods and media but know it as just that…fun and extra Stuff . They know American culture is often gaudy and excessive.

They often laugh at us and all do the woke stuff going on here. They find it amusing and think we’re idiots. There’s no way they’re going to let a dementia-ridden old fart tell them what they should or shouldn’t do as far as their culture is concerned

He really is working on alienating every demographic.

Biden is an idiot. Just because he has allowed in 10 million low-skilled, poorly educated migrants from all over the world, doesn't mean all countries need to follow his lead. Some countries have a desire to maintain national security. Biden clearly doesn't, give the number of people on the terrorist watch list he has allowed in and the number of people from "watch" countries he has allowed in.

If expecting a country to be as stupid as he has been means they are xenophobic, I would like the US to be xenophobic.

Japan literally dying as a country and is famous world wide for xenophobia.

Looks like it may have to do with Israel. I googled how much Japan has given to Palestine and it's nearly 1B over the years, much of it through the UNRWA. They've also given a lot of aid to Palestine after 10/7, with the Japanese envoy warning it was going to Hamas. From 2/10 Jerusalem Post article:

Japan's rocky road and balancing act with Israel during Hamas war
Foreign affairs: Conflicting messages have come from Japan regarding its support for Israel since the beginning of Israel's war against Hamas.

Nissim Otmazgin, a Japan expert at the Hebrew University who is the dean of its humanities faculty, cited Japan’s initially very mild statement and noted that the tone in Tokyo changed and became much more clearly supportive of Israel after US President Joe Biden gave his strong pro-Israel speech on October 10. The change in tone, he said, was “definitely because of the American factor.” Once it became clear where the Americans stood on the issue, Japan fell in line.

...

"The relationship with the United States is the most important thing for Japan’s foreign ministry,” he said. “It is out of that relationship that Japan’s relationship with Israel emerges. We have to look at Japan’s relationship with Israel as part of the wider relationship with the United States.”

Otmazgin said that Israel will need to lean into its relationship with the US to prevent a negative development in the Japanese-Israeli relationship that unfolded this week from snowballing: the announcement by Itochu, Japan’s mammoth trading and investment company, that it was severing its aviation unit’s strategic cooperation with Elbit Systems as a result of the war. Itochu was ranked 96 on the 2023 list of Fortune Global 500 companies."

..

"The fear is that because of the war, Israel’s image as the Start-Up Nation will slowly fade away and Japanese companies will start withdrawing from the Israeli market,” Otmazgin said, terming Itochu’s move as “very unfortunate.” "

So, perhaps a hand slapping from Biden.

Rude.
Unacceptable.

Interesting that he should criticize Japan now.

It has been making radical efforts (for Japan) to increase foreign workers with significant changes made last year.

Japan should take in refugees just like us. If they are an ally why are they not helping with this humanitarian crisis? They need people to replace their aging population just as bad as we do.

Governments around the world need to wake up. Western nation and advanced nation populations are not reproducing. When this happens, these governments will crumble since their tax base will lower and there will be less need for government services. They could lose grip of their countries if they keep going down this path.

Less tax revenue, less people to govern, less government services available. It’s a losing situation for everyone.

This. We can criticize allies.
And they can criticize us.
