I don’t think I’m really on this team

I’ve been with my org for a few years and while I’m doing some good work and the group I support likes me, when I attend meetings with the division I’m in I don’t really feel like I’m a part of the group and nothing I do is of interest. I’m not even invited to attend team trips to various sites we support. I just feel left out, like everyone is close knit and in the know and I’m an extra cog no one notices. I’d like to quit but I can’t. Any way to improve this without seeming disgruntled, or just find a new job.

Build relationships with people 1-on-1. If you have time to spare, offer to help someone / ask what they're struggling with.

I have found that "doing good work" is sometimes not enough and you need to do a little bit of self-promotion. If you think someone could give you feedback on what you're doing, you could also ask about that. They might feel more valued since you care about their input.

You could find a new job also.

Enjoy flying under the radar!!!!! This is an ideal place to be!

Have you shared with anyone on the team that you're feeling this way? It sounds like you may be making an assumption that it's on purpose.
Is it possible it could be something about the way your work interacts with theirs (or doesn't) or something about how the team is structured?

OP here. A lot of the people on the team are actually friends or related to other people who work for the org, or had their jobs created for them. I walked in off the street without a contact when I was hired. I already asked to be moved last year and the boss just hemmed and hawed. It feels like I’m on second class projects snd everyone else is first class because they were hired into desirable projects, while mine is like the armpit of the org.

OP again, and my projects funding sucks do it’s not possible to get the money to do the work I want to do.

It sounds cultural. Have you considered job-hunting?

It sounds like you need to leave and before you do,
Get a handle on how to assess future job opportunities better. Like, why are in stuck with crap projects, did you know going in? did you ask questions about your project, other projects within the company, chance of mobility to move from one project to another, how to get a chance a the prime projects

I’ve been looking around but nothing good coming up. It’s very small village so yeah, I think it’s cultural.

I enjoy flying under the radar. Won’t be a star but I do my own work, offer to help, and if the same people get called over and over to do a task, that’s fine by me

Find a new place to work then move.
