When should I assume DD acne treatment isn’t working?

Anonymous
Two weeks ago DD started minocycline. It got a little better right away, but now it’s like it’s getting worse. I was hoping she would have had just a little improvement by now. Is it still too early to tell? And if so, at what point in time should I assume we need to try something else?

At least 6 weeks, but realistically up to 6 months.

Gets worse temporarily. It took a month before my son saw improvement and in 3 months was clear with oral minocycline. Use a topical antibiotic like duac too- and retin-a so when she stops antibiotic the topicals keep it from coming back

I would give it 3 months.

Not sure why you would use anything other than ProActiv. The original 3 step program.

Did the doctor prescribe topical medications for acne too? My DD was told by her dermatologist that it takes up to 8 weeks to notice an improvement and often acne could get worse before getting better.

because that doesn't work on hormonal acne. My DS found that out the hard way. Now on Sarecycline. Derm said 3 months. It's been almost 2 months, and it's gotten a bit better.

I’m pretty sure you posted somewhere else. My advice still stands, go to Reddit/skincareaddiction and search old posts. This has likely been asked with a ton of advice.

I checked for you. People are saying 6-12 weeks. Two weeks is nothing for anything oral or topical. You need to give these medications time unfortunately.

Thank you. I haven’t posted about it here but I’ll definitely check out Reddit, thanks!

Have you asked your dermatologist about Benzoyl peroxide and BHA?
