Blue or green kitchen island?

Anonymous
Cabinets are SW Pure White and floor is hardwood, we were thinking of painting the island something different that would stand out. Walls are SW comfort gray so we're leaning towards something either green or blue.
SW Rainstorm and Underseas are two possibilities but I can't decide! Anyone have advice?

Mine is navy, which I love, but was already a little overdone / on its way out-of-trend when we built in 2021.

No.

Painted cabinets are dated, but don’t let that stop you. Put in whichever you think is prettier.

So white cabinets are dated? Wow I know a lot of people with old looking kitchens.

I love my green cabinets.

I think blue would look nice.

Neither.

Those saying no, what would you recommend?

I personally don't like blue in kitchens.. it looks nice, but it's just not an appetizing color, so wouldn't put it in a kitchen. Love the idea of a green island.

Not dated at all. Classic.

Trends last about 90 minutes these days, and people will always tell you that your preferences are “dated”. Just paint them the color you like and ignore the peanut gallery.

I often like a kitchen island that is more like a table, or a piece of furniture and I could see that being painted a color and it would work for me.

But to me if it’s the same as the perimeter cabinets and has the same worktop, it should be the same color.

That said, this isn’t a big deal and you should of course do what you want.

I thought I wanted a deep green island, but our designer talked me out of it given the anticipated wear and tear. I saw a photo on Houzz of a solid wooden island with pale gray surrounding cabinets that looked really nice - we couldn't pull it off in our house with our maple hardwoods, but if you have a darker- or lighter-toned wood floor (or tile) in your kitchen, that could be a consideration.
