Gen Z and Following in Social

Anonymous
My kid's friends send me follow requests in one social app. This is weird, right?
My kid does not mind, laughs and says the friendgroup likes us as parents...but I don't want to accept the request. Why does this gen do this? Is this normal? Am I the weirdo to say no?

My DD’s friends do this, too. Many of her good friends send me follow requests on instagram and I generally accept and usually follow them back. For context, they are all around 15 years old. It all depends on your comfort level - you can definitely can just ignore it. I’m fine with it and fully aware that lots of them have other accounts for the posts that they don’t want parents to see.

Social media is toxic.

Cut it out of your life, like the malignant cancer it really is.

It's fine. A few of DD's friends follow me, and I follow them. I never, ever comment. When they post a sweet pic, I "like" but that's it. It's no big deal.

I ignore.

I have social accounts but don't actually post anything on them anyway, so....
