Every day our teen says this kind of thing to me and it's really hurtful and I really can't take this kind of abuse anymore. It goes on and on: jump off a bridge, you are the worst person in the world. Where do kids learn this stuff and what can help with this?
I have sacrificed my entire adult life to raise this child and he is in therapy and meds. |
This is why people used to institutionalize children with severe needs. |
I’m sorry OP. I don’t have advice but just wanted to say hang in there! |
What age? How much are you in touch with the therapist? Do you have family therapy too? |
Adjust the meds. |
People still do. PHP and residential programs. |
This is the result of a failed forced social experiment called school.
Hang in there sista. It's almost over. Life will once again be wonderful. |
OP, meds need adjustment. Whether weight changes, teen hormones or whatever else - if this is happening, meds are not working how they are supposed to. |
Agree adjust meds. We were experience some of this and meds were a part of the issue BUT not a cure all. How is school? What is the school enviroment? Is he showing these behaviors at school? We moved our son to a school that has therapy built into the day and- again- not a cure all but he is not as angry. Are you limiting screen time? We find too much screen time makes our son a VERY angry person. Its truly an addiction.
I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. I have said to my husband on many occasions I feel like I am in an abusive relationship I can't get out of, but with the right school enviroment and meds things have improved. |
NAMI support group has been really helpful for me when my kid is acting up- because it’s people who have been there done, done that so they *get it* in the way that other parents can’t.
Also, although it can be hard to remember in the moment, what your kid is saying is not true! Parenting kids with emotional disabilities is exhausting and difficult. *Hugs* |
How do you find a NAMI support group ?Are they virtual or in person? Is there one for DC? |
Having worked in institutions, PHP and residential, it’s clear you have no idea what PP means by institutionalization. |
Parent coaching really helped us with this. |
I think most are virtual still. There is one for dc: https://www.namidc.org/support-for-you/support-groups/ I have attended the one in Northern Virginia: https://nami-northernvirginia.org/ I suggest starting with one in your jurisdiction, because people give recommendations specific to school systems and county programs sometimes. |
He is repeating what he’s being told/called at school. |
