Private swim lessons in/near NW DC?

Anonymous
I want to get 6-8 private swim lessons for my 7.5 year old before summer. She gets too cold in group classes when she has to wait for her turn, so we want to do private lessons. We didn’t love the JCC because the billing was super disorganized and they charged us double by accident multiple times. Any other suggestions within 25 minutes is Mt. Pleasant?

My kid is very comfortable in the water, but needs some instruction on strokes, breathing, etc. Thanks!

YMCA on 14th and W. Ms Marija is great. Lessons are around $50 for 30 min

I took my son to SafeSplash in Chevy Chase. Instructors were nice and it helped him get more comfortable before last summer began.

Another vote for Safe Splash, they are actually about to open their own pool in Montgomery Village which could be a great option.

The LivingWell pool (it's technically the Washington Hilton pool) offers private lessons to non-members. You have to call them and ask about instructor availability: https://www.livingwellindc.com/

She taught both of my kids to swim. They both really liked her. She has a child-like enthusiasm, but she also makes sure that the kids make progress, even in a group lesson.

Who would drive from Mt. Pleasant in DC all the way to Montgomery Village for swim lessons?!

I could see, maybe, driving to American University for their lessons as the farthest geographic boundary with a small child, though that's not a particularly warm pool catering to little kids

Well the Ann's Aquatics just recommended by two posters is in Gaithersburg, lol.

This happens all the time on this board. We live in DC as well and whenever I post for recommendations for something, I get a bunch of recs for things way out in the suburbs because a lot of people on the board live there. Oh well.

I don't know if it still exists, but there used to be swim lessons pre-pandemic at the Embassy Suites in Friendship Heights and I could have sworn the old lady's name was Ann who was the main provider. I'm getting faked out though by these Ann recommendations out in Gaithersburg.

Ann of Ann's Aquatics did do lessons at the Embassy Suites in Chevy Chase. My son learned to swim from her pre-Covid and she was lovely. Very enthusiastic and talkative and the kids liked her. During Covid there was this whole thing that went down and the management of the Embassy Suites gave all her main slots to another company when the pool reopened, even though she had been there for years, without communicating with her. Ann had some hours but not nearly as many as pre-Covid. My son aged out of her lessons, so I don't know her current status, she may not be doing Chevy Chase anymore, but if she is we liked her.

+1 Ann came to our pool in Tenleytown. She goes to various places for private lessons. She can arrange for a pool or use one you have access to

Another vote for SafeSplash, which does lessons ALSO at the Embassy Suites at Friendship Heights. But it is $100 for one half-hour lesson!

I found out hard to get a consistent private lesson teacher at safe splash. Four lessons in, had 4 different instructors. Hard for continuity and defeated some of the purpose of private lessons
