What virus is causing severe cough (not Covid)

| A coworker and my stepmom both needed zpacs and steroids—not Covid or flu. Severe coughing/almost choking. Is it whooping cough going around (saw it in one news item?) |

| Could be. A hallmark of whooping cough is vomiting you cough so hard. Could be a lot of other things though. |

I get it every time. No doctor knows. It sucks. O rarely go out and always mask as it’s miserable for months. |

| First of all, zpacs are antibiotics. They help bacterial infections, not viral infections. |

| If they got antibiotics they probably have severe bronchitis or “walking pneumonia.” However a few summers ago before Covid, we all had a severe cough in my family to the point where I’m pretty sure I cracked a rib (I was also pregnant, yay me) and it was just a random virus. |

| I coughed so hard with adenovirus that it wrecked my pelvic floor. But I just got steroids, not zpacs. Hopefully if they were prescribed antibiotics they actually had a bacterial infection. |

| We just had this go through our house and I know several others who have similar. DD's doctor suggested it could be human metanumovirus. Apparently it's similar to flu and it's circulating right now (not sure how they know this). |
