Cover Letter for Government Job Application?

Anonymous
This is a basic question, but I'm new to government hiring and am unsure. I've been asked to apply for a senior management role in the DC government and there is no option to upload a cover letter or second document aside from the resume itself. Should I add a cover letter to the end of the resume? Leave it off entirely? I have a senior exec contact in the agency that reached out to me about whether I'd want to take this position, so less concerned about making myself stand out for this role as just understanding the normal protocol for applying for jobs through this online systems.

Ha, fair, but it’s an old coworker. Specialized subject area, so even though I went into consulting, we still run in the same professional circles.

Bump, anyone? Please?

If it’s USAJOBS that you are applying through, there is 1000% a way to add a cover letter.

I was recently speaking with an HR person about this but not about government jobs. Cover letters were necessary in the olden days because the resume was generally not tailored to each job. Now you can easily change your resume so it’s not needed. Put it in the email if you want to say it.

Thanks, it’s the DC government system, not USA Jobs. So no email or option to upload multiple files in the online application.
