Disney - help me plan my trip

10 and 6 year old.
Going for 6 days.
4 days at Disney Park

Should we do 2 days of rest/chill at hotel, or 1 day Universal and 1 day rest?

I can't imagine we will ever go to Disney again. Kids haven't read or watched Harry Potter but like Minions. They like thrill rides.

Probably chill at hotel the day you arrive, then 4 days Disney and 1 day universal studio ( 2 park pass, so you can ride the connecting Harry Potter train in between to islands of adventure), and 1 extra day in case of park closure ( weather) or other delay ( we had Amtrak delay for an entire day). If you stay at Disney resort and don’t have a car, you will need transportation to universal studio ( Uber or taxi would be the easiest ). Order grocery delivery to your hotel, otherwise you end up paying $3+ per bottle of water, and eating breakfast at hotel room would save a lot of time, plus some medicine like for fever etc. Bring disposable rain coats, it rains every day during our summer visit.

No need to rest for two days. One is plenty and your kids can spend the day at the pool and playing arcade games and such.

What is “Disney Park”?

DisneyWorld in Florida?

Or Disneyland in California?

Depends on your kids/your family vibe.

We went to Disney in January. We did one day at each Disney park and 2 off days. For 1 of our off days we just hung out at our hotel—went to the pool, played basketball at the basketball court, played ping pong, etc. and the other off day we went to cocoa beach. It was just right for us. My kids loved the parks and the park days we got there before opening and stayed til closing so they were LONG days w lots of walking (my kids are 9 and 6 so no strollers and the park days were very go go go so we could hit everything/almost everything). We all appreciated the 2 off days though and I think we all enjoyed our trip more because of the days off. I debated doing universal instead of one of the off days and I’m glad we didn’t.

Since your kids don’t care about HP I wouldn’t bother w universal TBH.

One day off. Plan lighter days for a Disney park you’re less into. Are 10 and 6 boys or girls? I have boys that age and I’d skip magic kingdom entirely and do Hollywood studios for two days and animal kingdom. One epic day at universal - yes you just get the line park pass and I’d suggest paying for the cut the line pass at universal.

Are you using an itinerary planner? I found Disney hard / overwhelming to navigate without one.

Definitely recco the grocery (+ alcohol) delivery to your room. And if you can swing it, stay on resort. Soooo much easier and you can enter the Disney parks early if staying in resort at Disney.

I would do the 4 days Disney 1 day Universal 1 day rest. On any of the park days, you could always go back to the hotel for rest if you want.

I think you need a Disney travel agent. You need to figure out which hotel, which ticket, which parks etc.
I’ve always planned it myself because I like research and planning but you should get someone to do it for you.

If your kids aren't into Harry Potter I would skip Universal entirely. Other than the HP, it's just like King's Dominion or Six Flags but a lot more expensive. I'd do 5 days at Disney - one day at each park and then a second day at whichever one they liked the best. I would nit skip Magic Kingdom. There's space mountain, the new splash mountain (I forget the new name) should be open and the Tron ride is great.

Step one: Plan some other destination
Step two: Have a way better time.

Disney tickets don't get that much more expensive to add on days by #5 or #6. I'd skip Universal and just do Disney since you aren't into HP.

Consider doing half park days with pool breaks. My kids also loved the Disney water parks. They're included with certain tickets.

You won't see everything with 4 park days, especially if there is rain or rides break down. It literally took us 3 trips to Magic Kingdom before our kids got to ride Mine Train because it kept being closed (weather and repairs). Give yourself the option to go back to a park to ride, buy or see something your kids are desperate for and missed.

People always talk about doing Disney Springs on rest days, but that is a giant waste. It's basically a crowded mall with stores you can find anywhere. Don't waste a day of your vacation on it.
