Dear DCUM,
Religion aside, which school would you recommend my rising 10th DD, BIM or Bishop O’Connell HS? I know she will have to give up HS soccer if she wants to go to BIM. Thank you, |
I don’t see how anyone can make this decision for you considering we know nothing about your child. These two schools could not be any more polar opposite! One has a true high school feel and the other is in a building in Tyson’s corner! What is your daughter looking for in a school? |
Yes, but one is the #1 rated private school in the whole DMV. (Hint: Not the Catholic one.) |
By Niche? |
Troll post |
I hope you’re not referring to me, the OP. I am not trolling. My daughter debating between the two. BIM is definitely better academically but no sports and other HS clubs/activities. I told her that her club soccer would be fine. She can join a VA and MD club team if she wants to play soccer during the Fall and Spring season if going to BIM. I not people here don’t trust Niche rankings, but is there another source we can look at? |
There is no comparison why are you even asking? |
*. I know people here don’t trust Niche rankings, but is there another source we can look at? |
Because both school accepted her and she’s asking for my input. Before giving her my advice, I wanted to get input from DCUM. |
Totally different schools. O'Connell is much larger and will give her more of a traditional high school experience. Basis seems to have strong academics but not much else. What kind of kid is she? Does she want a more intense academic experience or more of a traditional high school experience? |
Niche is fake. It's pay to play. The more you pay the higher they put you on the list. Not legit. |
OP - If you are truly willing to send your daughter to either, have her shadow at each school. I'd be shocked if she didn't have a preference after that. |
Thank you. She shadowed BIM and will shadow Bishop next week. |
+1. Shadow at both soon and she should quickly get a sense of which she prefers. We only know one student who was weighing both of these schools. That student was far more invested in the heavy academics and academic-related extracurriculars at BIM instead of the traditional high school experience at DJO. |
Then what’s the alternative? U.S. News & World Report doesn’t rate/rank VA private schools. |
