Oh go away. You know nothing about what is happening in this persons life. Toddler could have had a blowout and parent didn’t have a change of clothes at the time and wanted to just finish the trip super quick.

I promise you there are grosser things that are coming into contact with Costco carts, like people’s snot.

This happened to me once. I was mortified, but alas, needed to finish our shopping. My kid was in her diaper, zip-up jacket, shoes (no socks, because poop) and nothing else. I know people were judging me, as noted here, and thought I was trash.

Maybe they had an accident and their clothes got ruined.

It’s ok. I’m sure one day this will be you, too, all alone in the nursing home.

One time my nephew was running in the park and fell face first into a mud puddle. He had to get stripped completely and fully wiped down with diaper wipes. He was changed into a clean diaper and allowed to keep playing while my brother ran home with the muddy clothes to get clean ones. Maybe the Costco kid fell in a mud puddle right outside Costco.

Sometimes sh*t happens.

Okay, but that still means you might see the kid in a diaper for 5-10 minutes. Mind your own business!

I've seen dog poop in a cart and that's not okay but people let it happen.

NASTY!!! Parents that let their kid out and about in just diapers, pjs all day and/or barefoot are just lazy.

Lazy or overwhelmed. You don't know which it is unless you walk in their shoes. Be kind.

+1

I have some friends whose kid experienced a diaper blowout for the first time while sitting in a high chair at a nice-ish family restaurant (like think Buca di Beppo, not fine dining and definitely kid friendly, but also not like a Chipotle), and they didn't realize it until they saw the poop literally falling out of the chair. These are good parents with good hygiene. As soon as they realized what was happening, one of them wrapped the kid up in a blanket and swept out of the restaurant entirely and the other did rapid clean up with wipes. It was still disgusting but also totally unanticipated and not a reflection of some terrible parenting choice. As a PP said: sh!t happens. Especially with kids.

It was not a new diaper. Kid had no other clothes on, not even shoes.
