Are we planting annuals yet?

Anonymous
The 15-day forecast looks good, but I wonder about ground conditions? Is the ground still too cold? Seems foolish to wait any longer, but risky nonetheless.

I am so tempted right now but I know I need to wait. Mother's Day is the start date for annuals in the ground in NOVA.

I put them in on Sunday. It's early, but we have not had heat like this in April. My ground was pretty warm (based on my history of planting colder vegetables in March).

I've had them in for 4 weeks. The containers I brought inside when it was below 40. The ones in the ground I just hoped for the best. All are thriving.

I didn't intend to plant that early but that's what we did FWIW.

1+. I planted about 3 weeks ago. Unless it really gets down to 32 I’ve found annuals do fine if the low is only 40 (and even that temp is just for an hour or two, at least in my v close-in suburb.)

I did. When have we had a cold snap in May?

We have had a few, but again, during those years we did not have multiple days in April over 90 degrees. As a rule, it's best to wait until 2nd week of May, but this year is hotter, earlier.

Me too, planted annuals 2 weeks back, all are thriving.

I just bought some double knockout rose bushes from lidl. Got them for only 12 bucks.

Some compost and water and they look great

Definitely hotter, earlier. Some of my roses are blooming already. I planted annuals a few weeks ago and all are doing well!

What are you planting?

I planted some catmint near the roses, begonias and some annuals in planters - lantana, geraniums, gerbera daisies.

Impatiens and petunias.

I potted my overwintered geraniums and lantana last weekend, and bought petunias, verbena, coleus, impatients, and fuschia today. All my annuals go in containers. Everything I planted last weekend looks good.
