anyone know about the "Virginia Valor Fathers Day Fiesta" or the "FPYC Fathers Day Tournament"

any thruput on these two recreational team all star tournament options (they are the same weekend)?

I konw this board is mostly club families but I thought people might have some experience with these tournaments before their child moved on to higher level soccer.

This is my first year as our org's volunteer. Is there any benefits I am missing to the Fiesta tournament over the Fairfax tournament? The registration charge runs significantly more costly with the number of teams we would be enrolling. We are from further away so the location is basically the same for us.

Am i missing some element (more games?) that would explain the price difference.

I want the best experience for our teams. Thanks for any advice.

All I know is I saw on here that the Fiesta tournament gave out real hideous South of the Border themed medals. Sleazy.

When my dd's team won an all star tournament a few years ago, all the players got trophies. A $.50 cent Mexican Hat shaped trinket is insulting.

its for fun go with whatever is cheaper.

+1, just do FPYC. Cheaper and the kids will like getting a cool trophy if they win

Are you sure the Valor one is for rec players? They are just a travel club without a rec league. Its probably a travel tournament especially if it costs more

CYA and SYA combine to make their rec league. This tournament is for rec players not travel.

FPYC has more history and probably the better choice and well most likely field the more competitive teams.

My dd played on an LS team in that Valor event last spring before she moved up to club. It SUCKED. There were no levels becuae they only had a few teams total and their team crushed everyone. Not bragging! it was just a waste of time and not fun for anyone.
Better tournaments have levels so that doesn't happen. And the medals were insulting to the rec kids, basically, joke medals implying that rec soccer tournament is a joke. My daughter was embarased of it and threw hers in the garbage.
It was a piece of tin shaped like a mexican hat on a string. I kid you not

LS way overchargers for rec all stars anyway and then to get that crap tournament for what we paid was just beyond the pail.

My son's rec team has done the fpyc tournament a few times. It is well run. There is a range of teams, I recall one year they got totally clobbered because the other teams were so much better! But i think you'll find that happens in rec tournaments. There's a wide difference in coaching and team structure especially at younger ages. But the tournament itself is organized and easy to navigate. The fields are fine. I would reccomend it!

Agreed. FPYC is run way better than the Valor Fiesta tournament. I think all you will see at the Fiesta parade is some lowly scrub CYA teams. The more solid and talented teams will definitely be more likely to be at FPYC.

i know nothing about rec soccer tournaments but if one is cheaper, gives better prizes and has been around a long time, seems like a no brainer.

have never seen a consensus on anything on this board before

We did the fathers day tournament back in the day and the kids loved it. I wouldn't think anything run by VALOR would be great.

Source; family who is leaving valor this year

Our club, Sterling, does FPYC every spring and when my kids played in rec, they had a good time.

I would be pretty uncomfortable with that South of the Border theme personally. Many of our older rec players are Hispanic kids. If i was in charge, there is no way I would be comfortable opting in for a tournament with that theming. (Why do they need a kitchsy jokey theme? Can't "All Stars" be the theme? I agree with pp's kid-the vibe is that rec soccer is a joke with janky medals.)
